Latin

    Visual Latin 1 allows students to learn a really tough subject in a fun and simple way. Dwane Thomas presents students with a series of short videos and worksheets that accommodate all different learning styles. He uses lighthearted humor to teach vocabulary and translation. he combines natural and traditional language teaching methods to ensure that students really “get it”.

    There is a strong and consistent focus on reading and repetition, and students find themselves able to speak and understand a new language through this non-intimidating approach.

    English and Language Arts

    “High School 1 Language Arts from Beyond the Page will provide freshman and sophomore level students with a challenging and comprehensive language arts curriculum. Through this year long program, students will be exposed to a variety of different genres — including novels, short stories, poetry, nonfiction, drama, and informational texts. This challenging array of texts will help prepare students for future college courses and will help them develop more sophisticated ways of understanding the world. Students will also be challenged to become strong and effective writers. They will improve their mastery of writing through formal expository, comparison/contrast, and persuasive essays as well as shorter reflective and analytical assignments. They will also compose their own short story. Students are encouraged to write effectively by improving their ideas, organization, support, and word choice. They will also be challenged with two advanced grammar units that will focus on areas that give writers difficulty.”

     

    Essentials in Writing reinforces writing skills using a slow, systematic approach for students who improve their writing skills. A step by step method allows students to focus on small daily tasks that will allow them to improve without being overwhelmed. 

    We will also be using Word Up Vocabulary to deepen the student’s vocabulary knowledge and reading comprehension skills.

    World History

    Bookshark’s program, History of Science, studies in depth the ways that history and science intersect. This course covers thousands of years of history from the creation of the Sumerian calendar to modern Quantum Physics.  Learning about the successes and failures of scientists, mathematicians, and philosophers gives a unique look into the history of our world and how it all affects us today. 

    From the city of Alexandria to the original development of Math as we know it today, this is a one of a kind curriculum.  Students examine the fast paced scientific growth and major advances and connect them to the world we live in now.

     

    Biology 1

     

    BIO 100 – The Living World offered through Arizona State University Online Universal Learner program. This course focuses on teaching the five core principles of Biology. These are:

    1. Evolution including mutation, selection, and isolation.
    2. Structure and Function of all living things.
    3. Information Flow, Exchange, and Storage.
    4. Pathways of Energy and Matter.
    5. Biological Systems

    This course also teaches about the true nature of science and how it develops and proceeds.  

    Biology 1 Lab

    Biology Launch from Home Science Tools offers hands on labs for High School students. They cover biochemical processes, genetics, and more. All experiments not only include the actual materials, but also detailed workbooks and lab reports. 

    Integrated Math

    Integrated Algebra and Geometry through Mathacademy.com using their integrated math track.

    Math Academy offers a fully customized, automated, AI driven program that introduces and moves through mathematical concepts based on the student’s needs. The goal of the Integrated Math track is to ensure a deep understanding of each concept in a mastery based approach. The student is served information in  bite sized, iterative packets that focus on the development of automaticity.

    World Geography and Ecology

    World Geography and Ecology through Beautiful Feet Books teaches students about different cultures and global issues through stories, literature, and living books. A large variety of personal stories teach about every aspect of the places studied, and hands on activities reinforce each subject. 

    “Each lesson incorporates geography topics like continents, oceans, biomes, and ecosystems. Students will understand physical geography, read maps, and analyze global environmental issues, discovering how local and global landscapes are interconnected.”

     

    Drafting

    Introduction to CAD is the first course in a four year Drafting curriculum. It teaches the basics of design in CAD, CAD commands, and drafting fundamentals. This course is offered through Murray’s Technical Education, and offers one to one teaching and constant feedback in order to ensure understanding and mastery of each skill.
